Russian General Vyacheslav Ivanovich Borisov is a highly decorated military man, who had a brilliant career first in the Soviet and later in the Russian Army. He lost his father during WWII and since early childhood was brought up in special military schools and institutions trained to be a weapon for the ideas of Communism. He was an atheist, Communist and a fierce persecutor of Christians. During Russias war with Afghanistan General Borisov was appointed the deputy commander of the Soviet troops in 1984.
During one of the combat operations in Panjshere Mountains he was in a helicopter with twelve men on board. The helicopter was shot down and was falling into the mountains. As he was facing death General Borisov remembered the words of the Christian soldiers whom he had persecuted throughout the years of service. The Russian General, who had never held a Bible in his hands, prayed his first prayer as the helicopter was plunging into the side of a mountain. Borisov says, My prayer was, Dear God, if you exist save me and I will use my life for you.
It took six months for General Borisov to recover from the crash. God restored him to perfect health and for several more years the general continued his service, first being in charge of the border between Kazakhstan and China, later as a military advisor to Fidel Castro in Cuba.
